TOKYO, February 12, 2020 - PHC Corporation (headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) announces a new functional upgrade for the Medicom-SK electronic medical record (EMR) system*1 launched December 2018. The upgrade further streamlines the workflow of medical professionals in clinics throughout Japan.
Faced with a rapidly aging population, increases in lifestyle diseases and a shortage of doctors, nurses, and other personnel, overwork for medical professionals is becoming a social problem. According to a survey report by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare*2 while shorter working hours are being promoted, approximately 60% of medical professional respondents consider a significant cause of overtime work comes from documenting medical certificates and records. Technologies such as medical ICT are required to further streamline clinical workflow and improve medical quality.
The upgraded Medicom-SK EMR system offers extensive functions that support documentation to improve the work efficiency of medical professionals. A patient’s basic data and the latest nursing information can be automatically copied from the EMR database to documents, while over 60 documentation templates help simplify repetitive tasks. Medical records can also be edited on a mobile device, allowing medical professionals to complete documentation tasks during home care visits and better manage time.
PHC Corporation is a Japanese subsidiary of the PHC Group, a global healthcare company group that develops, manufactures, sells, and services across diabetes management, diagnostics, life sciences, and healthcare service businesses. Launching Medicom-SK with upgraded features aims to expand the product lineup for the domestic healthcare IT business.
Takayuki Otsuka, member of the board and director of the Medical Information Systems (Medicom*3) Division of PHC Corporation says, “Since launching Japan’s first medical-receipt computer in 1972, PHC Corporation has been the leading provider of medical IT products in the field of medical information systems, using its accumulated experience and expertise. We expect the upgraded functions of Medicom-SK will lead to further streamlining the workflow for medical professionals. Going forward, we will contribute to higher-quality medical care by predicting medical environments and the needs of patients, while providing optimal solutions for medical professionals.”
The latest Medicom-SK will be showcased at CareTEX 2020*4 to be held from February 12 to 14 at Tokyo Big Sight. (PHC Corporation booth: South Hall 1, 15-3)
